CICM Workshop

April 1, 2007

|I came home yesterday from the Center for Innovation in College Media Workshop in Nashville and I feel incredibly well-informed. The workshop worked specifically with new media and at the workshop we had hands-on training with web-blogging (more of a refresher course for me), working with Adobe Audition and how to properly film, edit and produce a 2 minute spot for a newsroom. The workshop sessions were 3 hours each and conducted by a great group of professionals. We had also had speakers to further our awareness of the constant change news media is undertaking. A few of the speakers at the event were; Angela Grant, multimedia producer at the San Antonio Express-News, Jason Levine, senior worldwide Adobe product evangelist, Jack Lail, managing editor/multimedia for The Knoxville News-Sentinel, Lee Clontz, multimedia producer at Emory University and CNN Sports Illustrated, John Seigenthaler, Sr., gracing the attendees with a surprise visit, and Jennifer Carrol, VP of New Media Content at Gannett.

|It’s difficult to explain how much of an opportunity this workshop was. In case anyone from the workshop is reading, I will have to convey my appreciation for the directors at CICM, Ralph Braseth, Chris Carrol and Bryan Murley. College Publisher was also there and I was able to meet once again Chris Gillon and Matt Smith. I met them in St. Louis last fall. Moving on, the trip itself was well, we didn’t have much time to get into downtown Nashville but the city isn’t very far away, so I don’t feel as if I missed a chance to do anything. It was a good escape, the semester is getting busy. It’s been exactly a month since my last entry, so accept my apologies for the extremely vague description of my weekend. Have a good week.

  1. I glad you enjoyed it, Matt. I don’t do workshops very often so I wasn’t sure whether my pieces would be helpful or what. There were certainly some great sessions and intructors (myself excluded). Best of luck in your semester.
