The Tuft

Note: Written in October 2003, The following is loosely based on the movies, The Mummy & The Mummy returns except based on a tuft, or a cluster/clump of hair that I had on my head at the time because I wore my hat backwards causing my hair to have a tuft all the time, with or without a hat. It’s hard to explain. Read it.
ACT I
Nathan: “I killed it. I shot it three times! The Tuft is dead!”
Maximus: “No! You don’t understand! The Tuft is not of this world. It will never eat! It will never sleep!.. and it will never stop!”
Nathan: “Great! So what you’re saying is that The Tuft is gonna be back? That’s just what I need!”
Maximus: “Yes. So say your prayers tonight, foolish one. For it may be your last. The Tuft will return.”
ACT II
After many days, nothing happened. Talk of The Tuft was in the air. Nathan was sure that he had killed it but local tribal leaders knew the truth. They knew that The Tuft was alive and in the shadows. Meanwhile, in Nathan’s room, an open window was welcoming the howling wind.
The Wind: “N a t h a n.”
Nathan: “Hello?”
The Wind: “N a t h a n..”
Nathan: “Who’s there?! Show yourself!”
The Wind: “C h e e r i o s..”
Nathan: “Cheerios eh?”
Nathan looked down at his bowl of alphabet cheerios. The letters magically assembled to spell ‘THE TUFT’.
Nathan: “… The Tuft…”
A scroll blew in from the window and landed on Nathan’s desk. He began to unroll it. At that same moment, the door busted open.
Maximus: “No! You mustn’t read that!”
Nathan: “Why not!?”
Maximus: “Because it is for me!”
Nathan: “How can you be so sure? Let’s just read it together.”
Maximus: “Alright.”
The Scroll: “Dear Nathan,…”
Nathan: “HA! I knew it!”
Maximus: “….”
ACT III
Nathan: “This map tells us where to find the Ray of Alderad. The ancient weapon said to destroy The Tuft.”
Maximus: “Where is the Ray of Alderad located?”
Nathan: “Sian’s Antique Shop, in the town.”
Maximus: “Let us go.”
Nathan and Maximus rode to the gift shop.
Shopkeeper: “Hi! Can I help you?”
Nathan: “We’re looking for the Ray of Alderad.”
Shopkeeper: “Oh that piece of junk, you can have it. It’s been on that shelve for as long as I can remember.”
Nathan: “Thanks.”
So with the Ray of Alderad now theirs, Nathan and Maximus left the store. Only to discover that they were being chased.
Nathan: “Hey, Maximus.. What’s that noise.”
Noise: “N a t h a n.”
Maximus: “Um, just the wind I guess.”
Nathan: “MAXIMUS! DUCK!”
Right over head, The Tuft flew over. It was hovering at town center. Nathan and Maxmius gazed at it.
The Tuft: “It took me 5,000 years to get enough energy to come back! Now I will rule all of mankind! I’ve heard about your conquests, Nathan! So you shall be the first to suffer my wrath!”
Maximus: “Nathan! Use the Ray of Alderad!”
Nathan: “How do I use it!?”
Maximus: “Push the button!”
Nathan: “What button!!! Oh.. Alright! Die!!”
With a bright explosion of light and energy, The Tuft turned into a rock at town center.
Nathan: “Well, that wasn’t so bad. Who’s up for some dodgeball?”
Maximus: “I am!”
The Tuft remained there as a monument to Nathan and Maximus for many years. At the base of the monument, “The Tuft will return..” was inscribed.
